About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

 

Job Purpose

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Head of Human Resources. This leadership role will be based in Los Baños, Philippines, and will be responsible for developing and implementing a clear strategic direction for the Human Resources function at IRRI. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in driving employee engagement, maximizing organizational effectiveness, and ensuring the global HR function is managed efficiently and effectively.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and is open for international applications.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

Strategic Direction:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic direction for the Human Resources function aligned with IRRI’s overall organizational objectives
  • Collaborate with senior management to identify HR priorities and ensure HR strategies support the institute’s mission and vision
Employee Engagement and Resource Alignment:
  • Foster a culture of employee engagement and continuous improvement by optimizing resource alignment, including people, processes, and organizational structure
  • Lead initiatives to enhance employee satisfaction, well-being, and work-life balance
Global HR Management:
  • Oversee the global HR function to ensure seamless delivery of the full employment cycle from recruitment to off-boarding
  • Develop and implement effective onboarding and off-boarding programs that facilitate a smooth transition for employees
Talent Acquisition:
  • Drive a transparent and efficient talent acquisition process, ensuring the right candidates are identified and secured for the appropriate roles across the organization
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects IRRI’s commitment to equality and diversity
Performance Management:
  • Establish and maintain a world-class performance management process that promotes a culture of transparency, accountability, and professional growth
  • Align the performance appraisal process with IRRI’s strategic objectives and ensure evaluations are conducted to a high standard
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Manage the design and implementation of competitive compensation and benefits packages that attract and retain top talent
  • Effectively communicate the compensation and incentive programs to employees, ensuring clarity and understanding

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in HR leadership, preferably in an international or research-oriented organization
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field

 

Skills Required

 

Mandatory

  • Proven track record in developing and executing HR strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Strong expertise in talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, and benefits administration
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage diverse HR teams across different geographical locations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Sound understanding of HR best practices, local labor laws, and international HR standards
  • Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of other languages would be beneficial

Preferred

  • Having experience of working in Africa will be an added advantage
