We are seeking a Head of Communications for a 2-year-regular position (renewable) to work within the Global Affairs & Communications Unit at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, Korea. (Duty station: Seoul, Korea)
Job Description

This role is an integral part of the Global Affairs & Communications Unit, responsible for leading communications strategies and activities that enhance the visibility, reputation, and impact of the organization globally. This position will provide strategic oversight on media engagement, content creation, digital communication, and public relations. The incumbent will oversee a team of communications professionals and collaborate with senior leadership, project teams, and external partners to deliver impactful and consistent messaging to diverse audiences.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communications Leadership:
    • Develop and lead organization’s overall communications strategy, ensuring alignment with IVI’s goals and mission.
    • Build and maintain a positive public image for IVI by positioning the organization as a global leader in vaccine research, development, and access.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to the senior management team, providing expert advice on how communications can support organizational priorities and enhance advocacy efforts.
2. Media Engagement and Content Production:
    • Oversee the creation and dissemination of high-quality media content, including press releases, op-eds, reports, and digital materials that highlight IVI’s work and impact.
    • Cultivate relationships with key journalists, media outlets, and influencers to maximize coverage and visibility for IVI’s work in global health and vaccine innovation.
    • Manage media crises, including the development of appropriate messaging, and ensure IVI’s response is timely, clear, and aligned with organizational priorities.

3. Digital and Online Presence:
    • Lead the strategy and implementation of IVI’s digital communications, including website content, social media presence, and online advocacy.
    • Ensure that all digital platforms reflect IVI’s brand and voice, and effectively communicate the organization’s mission and impact.

4. Team Management and Development:
    • Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development for the communications team, ensuring high levels of performance and engagement.
    • Foster a collaborative and creative working environment where staff are encouraged to contribute innovative ideas and solutions.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
1. Education Requirements
    • B.A. or Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field
2. Related Field Work Experience
    • 15+ years of experience in Communications, including leadership roles, with a proven track record in strategic communications, media relations, content creation, and digital media.
    • Experience in the global health, non-profit, or development sector, with a good understanding of public health advocacy.
3. Technical and Professional Skills / Knowledge
    • Specialized understanding of media, marketing, and/or public relations
4. Key Competency
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with a focus on team development and fostering a collaborative work environment.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues and convey them in a clear, accessible manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multinational environment, with a deep understanding of global health issues and vaccine-related communications.
    • High level of political acumen and an understanding of global health diplomacy and advocacy.
5. Language Proficiency
    • Fluency in English (writing and speaking) is required.
    • Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
