in Niamey

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Niamey, Niger.

As Head of Programmes you will support the development and management of Welthungerhilfe’s (WHH) country programme in Niger and contribute to its implementation and monitoring in order to maximise the impact. You will enhance programme quality in the areas of food and nutrition security, sustainable and climate-smart agriculture, WASH, as well as humanitarian aid. Additionally you will coordinate proposal writing processes and develop proposal documents to expand the donor portfolio. In doing so, you take into consideration the overall WHH strategy and quality standards and represent WHH in agreement with the Country Director.

Your responsibilities

  • Coordinate programme development by leading or contributing towards needs assessments, concept notes and project proposals
  • Support and guide the programme and project teams to ensure that all WHH activities comply with Core Humanitarian Standards as well as with WHH quality standards and specific donor quality and accountability requirements
  • Lead the development and implementation of an effective and participatory MEAL system
  • Further develop the fundraising strategy of the country programme
  • In cooperation with the program team, develop strategies and approaches to enhance program quality in the areas of gender, advocacy, food systems, humanitarian preparedness etc.
  • Identify potential new national and international partners, ensuring active collaboration and/or capacity building
  • Monitor context developments incl. the humanitarian debate and share relevant information with the Niger team and Head Office
  • Represent WHH vis-a-vis other non-governmental and governmental bodies and donors; participate in relevant coordination groups

Your profile

  • A university or college degree in humanitarian/development studies or an equivalent degree related to the position
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant working and project management experience, preferably in INGOs
  • Relevant professional experience in programme coordination and capacity building
  • Proven proposal development and reporting skills and a diverse donor relation experience (EU, USAID, German donors)
  • Excellent and open communication, good teaming and networking skills
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French
