The position is to be filled as soon as possible with an initial contract duration until December 31, 2024 with good prospects for extention. Employment location will be anywhere within Germany (home based) with meetings at our offices in Bonn and Berlin.

You are an expert in building tech-solutions or a leader driven by the desire to achieve maximum impact in developing countries? With advanced skills in project management, planning and business development, you will take responsibility for making Welthungerhilfe’s Child Growth Monitor (CGM) solution as effective as possible. CGM is currently a R&D endeavor in the field of ML/AI aspiring to relieve analog anthropometry measurements in the near future by digitizing the detection of under- and malnutrition of children by using Artificial Intelligence to predict height and weight based on smartphone pictures.

Your responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction for the CGM project to maximize its impact in detecting child malnutrition in developing countries. Drive product strategy and roadmap development.
  • Project Management: Oversee project scoping, planning, execution, and evaluation, ensuring efficient delivery of milestones. Steer the project according to agile principles.
  • Team Leadership: Build, lead and empower an international, remote team and foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation. Work in close collaboration with Welthungerhilfe’s HR Unit to hire, onboard and train talents.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Prepare regular project reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations. Work in close collaboration with the Head of Unit to inform on operating plan developments and KPIs.
  • Tech Expertise & Collaboration: Utilize expertise to advance the CGM solution’s technology for global child nutrition and to prioritize development tacks. Discuss, detail and align project and product direction, strategic paths and subsequent activities and tech development sprints with key tech experts (in-house & external service providers).
  • Partnerships & Business Development: Identify and pursue funding, partnership, and collaboration opportunities with the private, academic, and non-profit sectors to support the growth and sustainability of the CGM project.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with important internal and external stakeholders for project adoption and success.
  • Data Management & Quality: Ensure data security, accuracy, and quality control for predictive models.
  • Advocacy & Outreach: Represent Welthungerhilfe and advocate for the CGM solution at internal and external events, workshops, and conferences to raise awareness and garner support.

Your profile

  • Strong experience in management of complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and project management tools
  • Experience working in a digital startup environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to reduce complexity
  • Excellent communication skills, cultural awareness, and ability to interact with higher level stakeholders (including government-, donor- and partner representatives)
  • Proven track record of leading tech and product teams to success
  • Deep understanding of AI, ML, software architecture and IoT is desired; Specific knowledge in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition would be a strong asset
  • Understanding of the development cooperation sector, specifically of malnutrition topics, is an advantage
  • Excellent spoken and written English; any additional languages would be an asset
