The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with frequent travel to the project locations.

As Head of Project at Welthungerhilfe (WHH), you will manage livelihood interventions in the buffer zones of the Lomami National Park in Maniema and the Okapi Federal Reserve in Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). You will manage and implement two combined projects, one focused on Food security and sustainable use of natural resources and the other on contributing to the development and sustainable management of marginalized areas, based on specified directives in terms of content, schedule, budget and according to the standards of Welthungerhilfe and the provisions of the co-financiers.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out the project(s) in close cooperation with the respective local deputy heads of project according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors and WHH
  • Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.)
  • Develop needs based & impact oriented project planning in the context of the ongoing project(s) in line with WHH and DRC country strategy
  • Support the identification of co-financing opportunities to be pursued and ensure the timely development of successful project proposals in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies
  • Report to the Country Director on the progress of the projects and all risks associated with the project work
  • Manage staff in cooperation with the local heads of project according to WHH leadership principles, staff policies and WHH strategy
  • Ensure the implementation of WHH and KfW policies and their adaption to local conditions
  • Monitor the establishment and adherence to the projects’ security management system managed by the local heads of project in accordance to the global security policy/guidelines of WHH
  • Maintain high standards for donor and partner communication and cooperation
  • Establish good working relationships with donors and other stakeholders in-country for emergency, rehabilitation and development programmes in coordination with the Country Office
  • Represent WHH in country vis-à-vis selected relevant national and international stakeholders and partners in coordination with country office and th local heads of project

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in agriculture, social sciences or comparable qualification in a relevant subject area
  • A minimum of 3 years of project management experience
  • KfW donor experience would be an asset
  • Profound knowledge on rural project implementation approaches
  • A high level of resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French language skills
