The Programme for HIV and AIDS under the Health System and Population Studies Division (HSPSD) at icddr,b provides good quality HIV prevention services to vulnerable populations at risk of HIV infection since 2010 this has been made possible by working with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), donors, NGOs and CBOs. PWID are at greater risk of HIV and hepatitis infections and they should therefore receive special attention for harm minimization. To prevent HIV transmission, a package of harm reduction services which includes opioid substitution therapy (OST) is known to be effective. OST is also a form of drug treatment where an illicit drug is replaced by a licit, medically safe, long-acting substitution drug.
Position Description:
The Health Assistant will report to the Senior HIV Counseling Officer and will maintain inventory, registers (daily stock and dispensing registers), and assist in documentation to ensure effective management of OST patients as per guidelines. He/she will be responsible for:
- Dispense methadone as per treatment guidelines/protocols;
- Collect and store different study-related samples;
- Transport samples, maintaining the standard, to icddr,b main lab;
- Maintain good relationship with the patients;
- Receive patients and take quick records;
- Provide general health education and advice to the patients;
- Adhere strictly to the Good Clinical Practice guidelines during patient assessment;
- Prepare study-related documentation while maintaining the GCP standard;
- Follow the standard operating guidelines for the measurement of vital signs (weight, height, etc.);
- Coordinate with Nurse, Counselor and treating doctor;
- Guide the Outreach/health workers and others junior staff;
- Maintain study-related documentation in the source data sheet and the study log sheet in order to facilitate smooth administration of study-related activities.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor Degree with good academic records;
- 3 years’ experience in related field;
- Candidates having experience working in the field of HIV with PWID will be given priority.

Contract Type and Duration:
- Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 35,868/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen, Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
