Result of Service

The services required to keep missions and trips running where there are an exponential increase in the number of these missions and trips inside Libya.

Work Location

The position is located in Tripoli, Libya.

Expected duration

3 MONTHS

Duties and Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, tile incumbent will carry out the following duties:

1. Operates Trucks and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) transporting cargo, passengers and hazardous goods, such as bulk delivery of aviation fuel, diesel fuel, and gas cylinders to various locations within the mission’s area of operation.
2. Operate armoured SUVs and buses to safely transport passengers within the mission area.
3. Recovers vehicles at the team sites and throughout the mission area, and transports to a location for repair.
4. Performs VIP and standby driver duties.
5. Assists the workshop in the preparation of vehicles for field trips, such as changing wheels, cleaning air filters, and general check-over.
6. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in light and Heavy vehicles is required.
Experience in driving armoured vehicles is desirable.
Experience in international transport is desirable.
Experience in passenger dispatching is desirable.
Technical knowledge in vehicle repair and maintenance is desirable.
Possession of valid official national commercial driving/operator license.
Knowledge of Heavy Vehicles/Truck driving and experience in operating Material Handling Equipment.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in Arabic and English is required.

Additional Information

The work requires sitting most of the day five days a week during working hours, and involves walking to other offices within the compound in order to liaise with other working Units and outside the compound to liaise with other UN Agencies, local authorities as and when required.

Work is carried out in a normal office environment, sharing space with other colleagues and sharing computers, printers, and photocopiers.
