Based in Seoul, The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an intergovernmental organization founded to support and promote a model of economic growth known as “green growth”, which targets key aspects of economic performance such as poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries worldwide, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and the private sector to help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to climate change.

The Climate Action and Inclusive Development (CAID) unit is seeking a talented intern to support its activities in relation to GGGI’s global program portfolio, focusing on Policy Impact Assessment. This internship is aligned with CAID’s objectives in policy impact measurement, covering activities such as quantitative policy impact estimations, climate change initiatives evaluation, and potential impacts assessment from climate actions in strategic sectors.

Specifically, the intern will contribute to quantifying policy impacts using advanced statistical and modelling techniques, assisting in the development and implementation of tools for gathering, analyzing and sharing impact and policy-relevant information, and supporting knowledge creation and sharing initiatives.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The project focuses on rigorous evaluation and ex-ante impact assessment of climate policies implemented by GGGI member countries. The intern will:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on the state-of-the-art impact assessment methodologies, with a focus on quantitative approaches applicable to climate policy evaluation.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and refine approaches for quantitatively measuring policy impacts.
  • Assist in aligning impact assessments with GGGI’s Strategic Outcomes (SOs), ensuring that our assessments contribute directly to the organization’s mission and goals.

This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to the transition towards sustainable development and climate resilience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assist in collecting, processing, and harmonizing climate and green growth policy data from diverse sources.
  2. Help maintain and update GGGI’s climate and green growth policy database.
  3. Conduct statistical analysis to identify trends in policy development and implementation.
  4. Conduct literature review on climate policy topics and impact assessment methods.
  5. Support the development of policy indicators and impact assessment methodologies, in alignment with GGGI’s SOs.
  6. Contribute to the development of tools and guidelines for quantitative policy impact measurement frameworks.
  7. Create graphs, tables and maps to visualize policy data and analysis results.
  8. Contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations on policy impacts and assist in preparing materials for knowledge sharing and stakeholder communication.
  9. Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to improve impact assessment processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree (Masters or PhD) or that have graduated within the last year in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Environmental Science, or a related field with a strong quantitative focus.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python, STATA) and experience with data manipulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with econometric modeling, impact evaluation methodologies, and policy analysis frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets.
  • Knowledge of climate change issues, green growth concepts, and international environmental policy is a plus
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Motivated self-starter, with demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively in teams, and excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
