Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is one of the world’s most active centres for conference diplomacy. UNOG is also the largest UN Office after Headquarters in New York and is the site of many historic negotiations. UNOG is housed at the Palais des Nations, which was built in 1936 as the Headquarters of the League of Nations. The internship is located in the Vacancy Management Unit of the Human Resources Management Service, United Nations Office at Geneva. HRMS provides services to approximately 3,500 staff members in more than 30 client departments and offices located in Geneva and in field offices worldwide. The Vacancy Management Unit (VMU) provides HR expertise on talent acquisition, management and retention, workforce planning, job evaluation and career development to hiring managers and staff of UNOG and other client entities in UN Geneva. The intern will report to a Human Resources Officer. The services of the intern align with VMU’s main goals to support the full cycle of talent acquisition, management and retention and conduct effective outreach to attain the Secretariat’s targets of gender parity, geographical balance and diversity and inclusion. Our team is seeking for creative and dynamic individuals throughout the year 2025, to contribute to HR, outreach and communication projects, bringing innovative ideas and effectively leveraging social media and other tools. Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the selected intern’s skills and on HRMS’ priorities and needs and may include: – Conducting research on a diverse range of issues using multiple sources and preparing background material; – Assisting team members with various HR projects and networks, using creativity and out-of-the-box approaches to disseminating information and establishing partnerships with Agencies, Funds and Programmes and other stakeholders; – Assisting in conducting outreach on selected platforms and social media, such as LinkedIn, by creating innovative audio-visual content; – Creating graphically engaging presentations and materials; – Presenting visual concepts and ideas in a compelling and attractive manner; – Developing visual solutions derived from multiple data sources to enable insight and decision making at various levels; – Assisting in designing, organizing and managing the collection and analysis of statistical data; – Showing initiative and proposing new ways to coordinate and streamline the work of the team.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Experience in using social media for communication and outreach campaigns is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
