Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Currently, DRC is expanding its presence in the regions of the country and is looking for Explosive Ordnance Risk Education Assistant in the city of Kharkiv.

About the job

To inform the population about the risks associated with mines and explosive remnants of war, through educational activities among the population, namely meetings and events.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct mine risk education sessions for adults, adolescents and children in accordance with the internal requirements of the DRC Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding Sector, using standard and approved methodologies
  • Quickly respond to changes in the current situation in order to ensure the spread of awareness about the risk of mines and explosive ordnance among the affected population
  • Understand and ensure compliance of mine risk education activities with internal DRC requirements
  • Participate in the mine risk education planning activities
  • Plan and perform community liaisons to assist in the organization of mine risk education sessions
  • Provide reports on the work performed in accordance with the requirements of the DRC
  • Follow the work plans and methodical recommendations
  • Improve knowledge about common types of mines and other explosive ordnance
  • During mine risk education activities, collect information from the population about discovered explosive objects and pass it on to the Team Leader(s);
  • Perform administrative tasks (participate in the preparation of purchase requisitions, order requests, etc.) and/or other tasks at the request of the Team Leader(s)

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to striving for excellence and have fluent and competent command of the Ukrainian language

Required:

  • Higher Education
  • Skills of public speaking/conducting trainings, presentations or other activities with the audience in offline and online formats
  • Proven experience of work with children, teenagers and adults
  • Negotiation skills and experience
  • Language skills: fluent and competent command of the Ukrainian language, command of English at least at a basic level
  • Stress resistance
  • Computer skills: basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office package (with an emphasis on Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
