Background:

The recruitment is for the ODIHR Expert’s roster.

The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is the principal institution of the OSCE responsible for the human dimension. The ODIHR’s activities are implemented in 57 participating States in accordance with the ODIHR’s political mandate. The ODIHR has a large number of assistance projects in the areas of democratic institution building, the rule of law and human rights, as well as election observation. Some of the assistance projects take place in Hungarian-speaking areas.

Therefore, the office requires the services of a Hungarian language Verifier, Proof-reader and Translator (hereafter Verifier), on an occasional basis, with experience in verifying translations, proofreading and translating documents related to the above-mentioned issues. The Verifier should be available for potential assignments at short notice and should render the services in their capacity as an individual, not an agency.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Editor, Public Affairs Unit, the consultant will be tasked with verifying and proofreading and/or translating ODIHR publications, reports and other written documents from English into Hungarian.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of four years of experience in translation and demonstrable experience of editing/proofreading;
• Professional fluency in Hungarian;
• Excellent command of English;
• Ability to work independently under time constraints;
• Familiarity with the thematic areas of ODIHR activities in the field of human rights would be an asset; and
• Previous experience with OSCE or other international organizations would be an asset.

Remuneration:

Remuneration is based on the current OSCE consultancy rates and are determined by the nature and length of the task.
Should duty travel be necessary, expenses will be covered in accordance with the OSCE’s travel policy.
