Duties and Responsibilities
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is a department of the United Nations Secretariat. Its mission is to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian action effectively in partnership with national and international actors, so as to alleviate human suffering, advocate for the rights of populations in need, promote preparedness and prevention of disasters and facilitate the establishment of durable solutions. The internship is located in the ICT section within the Administration Unit which provides support to OCHA’s Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA). The Intern reports to the ICT Officer. The intern will support the ICT team and tasks will include: • Providing first-level support to end-users, basic troubleshooting, and escalate problems as needed. • Assisting in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems. • Assisting in the implementation of IT procedures. • Collaborating with the ICT team to analyze system requirements and propose solutions. • Working closely with the network team to understand and contribute to the administration of the organization’s network infrastructure, help in monitoring network performance and addressing connectivity issues. • Supporting the ICT team in conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with IT policies and standards. • Assisting in optimizing cloud resources for efficiency. • Contributing to the IT assets and equipment records in the inventory system.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is ICT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or in a related field. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Basic knowledge of hardware and software systems and MS Teams. Applicants should demonstrate keen interest in the work of the UN, and of OCHA in particular. Applicants should display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. Applicants should have ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Applicants should show eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies. Applicants should have ability to perform a variety of repetitive and routine tasks and duties.
Languages
English and Arabic fluency in spoken, reading and written is required for the internship.
