The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management

The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners’ programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

Background Information – DHMOSH

The Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) provides health-related services in New York and in over 100 locations worldwide.

The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Section focuses on occupational health risks and will commence the collection of information about occupationally incurred injury or illness, allowing for the development of baseline estimates of tangible and intangible costs. It also manages sick leave, disability, medical clearances, medical evacuations and repatriations, and preparedness for public health emergencies, including the medical aspects of crisis and mass casualty response plans in field duty stations.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat for OSH. The incumbent of this position will be personnel of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

 

 

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent will operationally work under the Information Systems Officer, and responsible for technical solutions development.

The ICT Senior Associate – DevOps will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Solutions Design and Development
  2. Solutions Support and Maintenance
  3. Client Coordination and Documentation

Solutions Design and Development

  • Assists in the design and development changes in assigned projects to meet the dates and objectives using knowledge of complete development life cycle from analysis to deployment;
  • Supports the business in defining the right technical portal architecture to support the business requirements;
  • Participates in the preparation of all documents related to project development.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of ASP.NET (C#, VB.NET), SQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Visual Studio, Web Services, XML, AJAX, Internet, Intranet and Client Server technologies for Portal integration to various systems;
  • Develops custom applications to automate manual processes;
  • Assists Designs and develops web projects, graphics, etc. as per project requirements.
  • Provides guidance to, and may supervise, new/junior staff, consultants, etc

Solutions Support and Maintenance

  • Maintains assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system’s applications, analyzing, and implementing system changes/upgrades, etc;
  • Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures;
  • Ensures that the services provided adhere to the operational standards for quality and timeliness;
  • Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing, and utilizing test bases; assists users in acceptance testing.
  • Participates in Helpdesk support services.

Client Coordination and Documentation

  • Represents the team in a professional manner when dealing with internal and external clients;
  • Prepares, updates, and maintains system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals;
  • Ensures that the service provided adheres to the operational standards for quality and timeliness.

Performs other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Impact of Results

The result of work of the ICT Senior Associate – DevOps impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Division as well as the performance of the services implemented. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules, and regulations.

Education

  • Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and seven (7) years of relevant experience are required OR.
  • A first-level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelors, or equivalent) preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering or in a field related to the post description with three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • A relevant professional or technical diploma preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering or in a field related to the post description with five (5) years of relevant experience.

Work Experience

Required:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in the field of ICT development and support of web application projects or other related fields.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience with DevOps.
  • Experience with help desk or service desk support services;
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL server.

Desirable: (The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)

  • Be proficient in the following website development technologies: ASP.NET (C#, VB.NET), SQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, XML, Visual Studio.
  • Exposure or knowledge in any one of database management tools (RDBMS); i.e. MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.
  • Knowledge in Windows Server and MS SQL Server administration is an advantage.

Language requirements:

  • For the position advertised, fluency in English (write, read, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of one or more official UN languages will be considered an asset.
