Job Description
Inclusive Development Manager

As part of Save the Children’s country strategy in Vanuatu, we want all girls and boys, including boys and girls with disability, to access quality education, and for all girls boys including those with a disability to be better prepared for the impacts of disaster.

This is why we have been a key proponent to Vanuatu’s Inclusive Education Resource Centre (IERC), due to be completed in April 2024, and in the upgrading of evacuation centers to ensure greater accessibility. The IERC will ensure that parents, teachers, and administrators can access much needed resources for ensuring disabled children’s inclusion into the classroom, access screening and assessment tools, and provide a beacon for any child with disability to feel welcome in the education system in Vanuatu. This IERC will also house needed assistive devices (including wheelchairs, hearing aids, mobility cane), and save the children will establish a referral pathway fund so that children with disability can cover needed welfare and medical costs in attending school.

Where you come in:

In this fulltime contract position based in Port Vila Vanuatu, you will use your technical expertise, project management experience, and relationship building skills to play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing diverse initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity and improving the lives of children and individuals with disabilities in Vanuatu. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of projects, with a focus on procurement, partnership management, and the enhancement of accessibility in disaster situations.

You will make an impact by:

· Collaborating with stakeholders to identify children with disabilities in need of assistive devices to improve their access to education

· Establishing and managing a Referral Pathway Fund with the Disability Desk, ensuring financial barriers do not hinder access to essential specialized services for children with disabilities

· Coordinating partnerships with civil society organizations, government agencies, and private sector partners on disability inclusion

· Working with partners in retrofitting works at evacuation centers, addressing identified needs such as building access ramps, installing accessible toilets, and widening doorframes.

  • Representing Save the Children on priority issues including GEDSI in humanitarian response, inclusive education, and children’s advocacy issues

· Promoting the inclusion of children’s voices in decision-making processes, recognizing them as crucial partners in all aspects of our programming in Vanuatu

Does this sound like you?

You have project management and coordination skills, strong understanding of gender disability, and social inclusion, excited to learn, adhere to policies & guidelines and able to work in a flexible and high achieving team.

This role requires:

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines, responsive to external requests and be a strong team player.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with government engagement processes, reporting frameworks, and MOU establishment.
  • Passion for empowering children and ensuring their meaningful participation in programmatic activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
