Background information:

UNICC requires an experienced Finance Assistant to contribute to finance activities related to accounts receivable (such as issuing customer invoices and reviewing customers’ statements of accounts; responding to customer queries regarding UNICC invoices; administration of imprest account in UNICC office in New York USA; and other finance-related activities.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief, Finance and Accounting Section (MSF) within the Management and Strategy Division (MS) and in close collaboration with the Finance team. The incumbent will assist the Finance Team in its day-to-day operations during the testing, training and migration to the new ERP system of its Host Organization which is scheduled to be live in Q2 2024 and provide support in the following activities:

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare and issue UNICC invoices to UNICC clients
  • Generate UNICC Customers’ Statements of Accounts (SOAs) and review them to follow up payments
  • Respond to UNICC customers queries on UNICC invoices as well as Host Organization’s queries on receipt of payment

Imprest Administration

  • Assist in administering the imprest accounting in UNICC office in New York, USA and making payments to local suppliers

Other Finance-related activities

  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining the relevant filing systems for all financial records ensuring the completeness and accuracy of records in the correct database
  • Support the finance team in briefing and assisting newly arrived staff, experts and consultants from other units on basic finance procedures and requirements

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • At least 5 years relevant experience in accounting or finance
  • Good computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access and Outlook)
  • Good interpersonal skills with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Good knowledge of financial rules and regulations of International Organizations
  • Working knowledge of ERP Systems such as Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in an International Organization
  • Knowledge of financial rules and regulations of International Organizations

Education*:

Essential:

  • Completion of secondary commercial school with background in accounting, finance or related field

Desirable:

  • Completion of Training in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS)
  • Finance training certification such as those issued by Chartered
  • Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required

Other Information

Compensation:

Fee will be based either on the National Officer salary scales or the Individual Consultancy band levels (for Headquarters)
