Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the P4 Illicit Synthetic Drugs Expert, the individual contractor will: • Support the organization, implementation and evaluation of the Forensic Science Symposium 4.0 (Vienna, 8-10 October 2024), including liaising with session chairs, speakers and participants, liaising with the IT department and conference services, updating the symposium website and preparing communication material for social media (X, LinkedIn) and the UNODC website related to the symposium and its topics; • Assist in drafting a report of the symposium; • Assist in drafting an evaluation survey of the symposium, compile and analyse its results and present the results in a report. • Conduct research (literature review, online media) on emerging drug-related threats, including chemical, pharmacological and toxicological characteristics of substances and clandestine manufacture of synthetic drugs. • Assist in finding, extracting and compiling information and technical data on illicit synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances and related topics; • Assist in analysing data sets with Microsoft Power BI and displaying results in interactive graphs and tables with a view of integrating them into web pages; • Conduct other tasks related to the implementation of the SMART Forensics programme as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
High school diploma is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in scientific research or relevant experience is required Experience in drafting technical documents on illicit drugs or related topic is required Organizational and analytical skills; Experience with organizing events is required Experience in drafting social media and web content on scientific subjects is desirable: Computer literacy, including excellent skills in Excel and Microsoft Power BI is desiriable Cultural sensitivity, sound professional judgment is desirable Sound advocacy, liaison skills and ability to interact and relate with people at any level is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
