Background
The UN Capital Development Fund makes public and private finance work for the poor in the world’s 46 least developed countries (LDCs). It offers “last mile” finance models that unlock public and private resources, especially domestic, to reduce poverty and support local economic development.
UNCDF’s financing models work through three channels: 1) Local development finance, which capacitates localities through fiscal decentralization, innovative municipal finance, and structured project finance to drive local productive capacity for sustainable development, 2) Inclusive digital economies connect individuals, households, and small businesses with financial eco-systems that catalyze participation in the local economy and provide tools to climb out of poverty and manage financial lives, and 3) Investment finance, which provides innovative financial structuring, de-risking, and capital deployment to drive SDG impact and domestic resource mobilization.
Job Purpose and Organizational Context
UNCDF is a Fund Manager of the CookFund, which is a key component of the Integrated Approach to Sustainable Cooking Solutions Programme in Tanzania, established by the Government of Tanzania in collaboration with the Delegation of European Union (EU).
Under this context, UNCDF is looking for the Infographic and Data Visual Designer Assistant to assist with production of creative visual content which will be used in all methods of the UNCDF’s communication, both internally and externally, support internal/external ICT needs of the agency and other communication roles. The IGDVDA will work under direct supervision of the CookFund Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Graphic Designing
  • Layout and design of information and communication materials (i.e., banners, posters, booklets, newsletters, presentations, leaflets, books, reports, calendars, bulletins, flyers, cards, e-journals, infographics, factsheets, etc.) that are produced by the UNCDF.
  • Create and produce creative and innovative visual content (graphics, charts, and illustrations etc) to be used in reporting and communication of- projects and advocacy through UNCDF’s social media accounts, print media, website, events, as well as other internal and external communication materials/platforms.
  • Contribute innovative design ideas and documentation of field visits and various UNCDF and partners’ events through photography, videography and other visual components.
  • Improve and edit artwork, photos, charts and other graphic elements that are used by the UNCDF.
2. Support Information Management and Communication Technology
  • Assist with data collection and analysis to extract insights and identify key messages that need to be communicated through visuals
  • Take complex data and information and transform it into easily digestible, visually appealing content that informs and engages the audience.
  • Develop narrative or stories around the data for visual storytelling, ensuring that the audience can easily follow and understand the information being presented.
  • Prioritize and organize data to emphasize the most important points, ensuring that the audience’s attention is directed where it matters most.
  • Asist in all ICT related tasks assigned to him/her, including management and regular updates of UNCDF Tanzania webpages.
  • Help to accomplish administrative responsibilities: Assist procurement process of the IT items by liaising with suppliers regarding quotes, equipment evaluation in accordance with approved standards.
  • Support with innovative ideas for the dissemination of the SDGs, UNCDF strategic and engagement plan and other content on UNCDF Tanzania social media accounts and other platforms.
3. Support Branding and Development of Visibility Materials
  • Support development of knowledge and visibility products to share key information and success stories via UNCDF online platforms.
  • Contribute innovative design ideas for visual components of organization events coordinated by UNCDF and partners.
  • Perform any other programme support including communications and visibility work to support the rest of UNCDF staff.
4. Ensure Programme Support and Monitoring
  • Design data collection forms (digital and paper based) to support data is collection from the field.
  • Support in quality checking and validation of data captured in the programme database and provide regular feedback to grantees on their performance and quality issues.
  • Participate in field missions for data validation and quality assessment with grantees.
  • Participate in capacity building sessions of grantees on data collection using programme tools.
  • Support other programme activities as may be assigned by the supervisor.
5. Support Communicate, organize and coordinate outreach activities with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Support the Monitoring and Communication Teams on organizing outreach activities with various stakeholders.
6. The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessaryfor the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization

The Infographic and Data Visual Designer Assistant will work under the guidance and direct supervision of the CookFund Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst.

Required Skills and Experience
Minimum academic education:
  • Secondary Education is requried or
  • University degree (bachelor’s degree) in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Telecommunication, Information Technology or equivalent field will be given due consideration, but it is not arequirement.
Minimum years of relevant work experience:
  • Minimum of 5 yeas (with secondary education) or 2 years (with bachelor’s degree) in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Telecommunication, Information Technology is required.
Required skills and competencies:
  • Computer literate in standard software applications, including proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), web design tools such as Dreamweaver and Flash and/or other relevant digital tools.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, layout, typography, and colour theory.
  • Experience in interpreting and presenting data in a visually appealing and understandable manner, including understanding of different chart types, graphs, and other data representation techniques.
  • Experience in developing digital data collection tools and link with analysis software for timely data interpretation, presentation and decision making.
  • Experience in System administration of windows operating systems and Linux operating system.
  • Familiarity with relevant programming languages or scripting languages.
  • Experience and knowledge of videography and photography and ability to edit and work with photos and videos.
  • Experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management.
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the competencies section:
  • Experience and knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UNCDF’s work in Tanzania is an advantage.
  • Experience in data representation and design elements is an asset.
  • Experience in clear and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of a UNCDF office is desired.
Language Requirement:
  • Fluency in English and Swahili is requried.
Professional Certificates:
  • Candidates with additional IT related certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent have a competitive advantage
