Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Joint Mission Analysis Centre (JMAC) of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Beni. The incumbent will be responsible for (research, collection, collation, analysis and presentation) of information as a basis for enhanced planning and decision-making by the Senior Mission Leadership. The incumbent reports to the Beni JMAC team leader.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Analyst will be responsible for the following duties:
• Maintain understanding of conflict dynamics in DRC and the region and any developments relevant for the implementation of the Mission mandate through monitoring and collection of data/information from multiple sources, including UN Mission civilian, military and police components, UN Country Team (UNCT), national military/civilian authorities, NGOs, media and other key stakeholders.
• Examine, collate, and organize information by using JMAC information management processes and systems.
• Organize, analyze and synthesize information for the identification of trends, production of forecasts and assessments including network and geospatial analysis using analytical techniques and software.
• Produce accurate and timely forward-looking analytical products and briefings, in coordination with other JMAC analysts or Mission components.
• Assist in the development, implementation and application of JMAC tools, databases, analytical software and standard operating procedures, such as the Mission’s Peacekeeping-Intelligence System, in consultation with all relevant information collection components of the Mission.
• Contribute to effective working relationships within the JMAC and other UN Mission components, the UNCT and relevant external actors and organizations.
• Maintain a system for classifying and storing confidential information, in consultation with information management/technology expertise.
• Perform other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, foreign affairs, law or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience and relevant academic/professional qualifications, such as accreditations from military or government command and staff colleges, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the intelligence or information analysis, political science, international relations, journalism, development, security (military or police) or related field is required.
Experience in field and online research, information analysis, including data driven, network and geospatial analysis, using databases and analytical software is required.
Experience in drafting of high-quality analytical products under tight deadlines as well as delivery of briefings to senior staff on complex topics is required.
Experience working in a conflict or post-conflict situation in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Experience working in under tight deadlines in a diverse and multidisciplinary team is desirable.
Experience in the mission’s geographical region is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and French (oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
