Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Global Technical Team (GTT) of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in Vienna. The incumbent reports to the QA/DevOps Team Lead.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Participates in the deployment and implementation of new applications, datasystems, designs, and infrastructures in a cloud environment.
• Develops, tests and implements simple scripts and programs using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools.
• Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, deployment and support of cloud architecture and data systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements.
• Installs computer application systems software and infrastructure according to specifications; monitors computer applications and cloud systems for performance, cost, and security using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports.
• Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations.
• Maintains functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified.
• Provides support for deployed computer application systems including version management and data recovery; performs ongoing reviews with developers and team members with a focus on security, cost, and maintainable design.
• Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
• Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, creation of cloud resources, etc.
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions.
• Provides guidance to new/junior staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in data management, integration, modeling, optimization, and other relevant areas is required.
A minimum of five years of experience in cloud-based infrastructure management is required.
A minimum of five years of experience with MS-SQL database programming language is required.
A minimum of one year of experience in designing data integration and pipeline architectures which must include ingesting data through different methods such as message queues, database connections, flat files, REST, or specific API’s, is required.
Experience supporting cross-functional teams and collaborating with stakeholders in support of analytics initiatives is required.
Experience in the Azure DevOps tool chain and the deployment of data pipelines is required.
Experience in delivering data use cases using Azure Data Factory is desirable.
Experience working with self-service analytics applications like Microsoft PowerBI and others for data discovery is desirable.
Training and practical experience with the PRINCE 2 methodology is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
