Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Global Technical Team (GTT) of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in Vienna. The information system assistant reports to CEM/UC/gData Team Lead. This role is responsible for the development and support of web applications, managing and optimizing identity management systems and services to support data engineers.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new application systems releases, modules and functionalities.
• Develop, test, debug, implement and maintain applications using UN standard web-based development frameworks and technologies such as Microsoft.Net/C#, Vue.js, ASP.NET Core MVC, JavaScript, MS SQL Server. Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of computer application systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements.
• Deploys computer application systems software to a cloud hosted environment such as Microsoft Azure, to specifications; monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports.
• Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations.
• Maintains functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified.
• Provides support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users’ offices; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests.
• Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
• Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g., organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc.
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions.
• Provides guidance to new/junior staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development or related area is required.
A minimum of five years of experience in designing and developing enterprise solutions based on the Microsoft technologies (C#, ASP.net, Web APIs, MSSQL, etc.) is required.
A minimum of three years of experience developing web applications and APIs using relational databases based on Microsoft SQL Server is required.
A minimum of three years of experience developing web applications using single page application frameworks such as Angular, VueJS, or ReactJS is required.
A minimum of three years of experience in deploying applications to Azure Cloud Services in an enterprise application environment is required.
A minimum of two years of experience with identity providers such as Identity Server, Azure Active Directory (AAD) B2C, KeyCloak or similar is required.
A minimum of two years of experience with third level production support of multi-layer systems is required.
Experience with tools managing CI/CD pipelines such as Azure DevOps pipelines or similar is desirable.
Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with ARM templates or bicep DSL is desirable.
Experience with Azure DevOps or Team Foundation Services (TFS) is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
