This position is located in the Global Technical Team (GTT) of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), Vienna. The incumbent reports to the Computational Linguist and QA/DevOps Team Lead.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for the following duties:
• Provides support for QA and related services and help to expand and improve the effectiveness of these services.
• Creates, executes, automates, and manages test cases and test plans for existing and developed systems;
• Participates in the planning, specification, design, development, testing, debugging, support and implementation of new application systems releases, modules and functionalities from a quality assurance perspective.
• Supports software development process and implementation of new software releases by testing computer application systems and programs, using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools.
Serves as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of computer application testing systems; independently liaises with users to define and specify requirements.
• Prepares technical documentation for deployed computer application systems.
• Maintains test and functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified.
• Drafts correspondence and communications, as well as prepares team contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
• Serves as focal point for development teams when communicating with Quality Assurance Team members, involving extensive liaison with diverse team members
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions.
• Provides guidance to new/junior staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Job – Specific Qualification
International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) Foundation certification is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of daily, hands-on practical experience in providing software quality assurance for medium-large sized development teams is required.
A minimum of five years of daily, hands-on practical experience in developing Test Automation Frameworks or designing automated testing suites is required.
A minimum of five years of daily, hands-on practical experience with regular release testing and clearance using Agile development approaches such as SCRUM is required.
A minimum of five years of daily, hands-on practical experience with managing test code and definitions using Software Configuration Management and integrating testing and clearance processes with build tools such as Team Foundation Server or Azure DevOps Services is required.
A minimum of five years of daily, hands-on practical experience with developing UI test automation with Selenium using C#/.NET is required.
A minimum of five years daily, hands-on experience in servicing geo/time zone distributed dev teams, QA team members, and clients is required.
A minimum of two years of daily hands-on practical experience with git source control
including branching and processing of pull requests is required.
Daily, hands-on practical experience with writing test cases using Gherkin syntax is desirable.
Daily, hands-on practical experience with testing software for Prince2 based projects is desirable.
Experience in testing applications hosted in Microsoft Azure Cloud Services is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
