This internship will be based in London and will commence in October 2023 for duration of 6 months.

Background

To provide support / participate in the development and administration of the programme under direct and continuous supervision of more senior bankers with a special focus of support to assist in the documentary business of the programme. The Intern will gain knowledge of EBRD’s trade finance activities, working with Financial Institutions in a number of EBRD’s Countries of Operation.

An internship would give the candidate an insight into the EBRD and its activities, and allow the candidate to apply the learning from their studies in a practical working environment. The EBRD encourages applicants who have an understanding and interest in the mission of the Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Check, negotiate and approve requests from participating issuing banks and confirming banks to finance specific trade transactions within established limits and approved procedures
  • Assist in the drafting, negotiating and signing of new agreements, checking of conditions precedents and dealing with general enquiries.

Support more senior bankers in the TFP Team in:

  • marketing the programme to confirming banks, their clients, risk participants and donors worldwide
  • compiling reports to donors and co-financing partners
  • implementation of new trade finance projects
  • Attend meetings with clients with more senior bankers
  • write client call reports
  • Draft specific assigned portions of Bank documents and correspondence
  • Research, analyse and provide background information on developments on the international trade finance market, market trends, legal developments, etc.

Key Requirements

  • Good knowledge of trade finance instruments
  • High customer orientation and strong communication, negotiation and marketing skills
  • Capable of working under time pressure and meet tight deadlines

Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Good relevant degree from a leading university in the country of education
  • Proven analytical skills demonstrated in previous employment or in degree course work
  • Excellent written (report writing, correspondence) and verbal communication skills in English and a second language (preferably French, Russian or Arabic).
  • Computer literate with MS skills

  • The individual should be an excellent team player with strong communication, interpersonal and diplomatic skills, as an important component of the job will be to participate in the work of the Team
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working on a number of projects in parallel
  • Ability to operate sensitively in multicultural environments and build effective working relations with clients and colleagues
