Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting The internship is located in the Conference and General Services Section (CGSS) within the Division of Administration and is for a period of at least two months up to six months depending on the needs of the Division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member within CGSS in the Division of Administration, but they may undertake flexible working arrangements, subject to certain conditions. The Section is seeking interns who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in the administration of conference management services, general services, host country relations services and catering services. The applicants should have excellent drafting skills in English. Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual’s background. Daily duties may include: • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents. • Attending and summarizing meetings. • Conducting document, market and internet research. • Working on web-presentations. • Compiling statistics. • Generating a variety of statistical and other reports, work orders, etc. using various databases in Excel and SAP. • Performing data entry and extraction functions. • Conducting media analysis. • Conducting evaluation of projects. • Liaising with other Sections of ESCAP and/or other UN entities on CGSS administrative matters. • Experience with MS Office (specifically Excel and PowerPoint) is required.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Fluency in spoken and written Thai is required.
