This internship is located in the Evaluations Team in the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training, in the Department of Peace Operations at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Department of Peace Operations was established to provide political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates. DPET oversees the policy and doctrine guiding the work of peacekeeping. In addition, the division has the responsibility to evaluate, at the request of the heads of the departments, how those policies are being applied, gather lessons learned and best practices, and use that information to guide the development, coordination and delivery of standardized training, so as to complete the learning cycle. DPET is also responsible for developing and maintaining strategic cooperation with various UN and external partners.
The Evaluation Team is now mandated to support the development, piloting, and implementation of CPAS in all peacekeeping missions; provide ongoing technical and on-the- ground support to the implementation and management of CPAS in missions; to integrate and/or align CPAS with other UN planning, performance assessment, and IT systems to ensure coherence; and institutionalize CPAS as a UN planning and performance tool with supporting policy and guidance.
The Intern reports to the Chief of the Evaluation Team.
This internship will be undertaken part time for a period of six months. The internship will be undertaken remotely. The internship is UNPAID. For remote internship, candidates must be able to provide proof that they are allowed to work in the country where the internship will be undertaken.
Responsibilities
The intern’s role will be to provide general administrative and substantive support to the Evaluation Team within the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division of the Department of Peace Operations.
• Support the implementation and management of the Comprehensive Planning and Performance Assessment System (CPAS) for United Nations peacekeeping operations.
• Attend meetings with UN counterparts and coordinate follow-up to decisions
• Assist in preparing presentation materials including graphs, charts, excel tables and PowerPoint slides
• Assist in drafting notes, preparation of reports and background documents
• Assist with reporting, drafting and editing of strategic communication products for CPAS
• Assist with CPAS web content updates
• Make proposals and suggestions to improve on infographics and design (create graphics, logos, digital material as necessary)
• Evaluate adequacy of existing records management and reference tools, and participate in record keeping improvement projects and make recommendations
• Provide statistics and run reports related to the work of the Evaluation Team as requested
• Perform other related duties, as required

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree
or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree
programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
2.The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for.
3. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.).
4.Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.
5.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
