About the Program

We offer internships lasting between 3 and 10 months. Our internship opportunities may commence at any point during the calendar year.

Before starting your internship with us, you will have to obtain a security clearance thus we remain flexible on potential start dates. Our helpful security teams will support you with this clearance process.

During this program you will join and support different teams and simultaneously learn from our business experts via on-the-job training and shadowing.

About the Internship

Internship duration: 10 months

Location: The Hague, Netherlands

The Command and Control (C2) group is responsible for planning and executing all lifecycle management activities (design, transition and operations) for Joint Forces/Maritime/Land C2 services. This includes subject matter expertise, research and development, software engineering, acquisition, operations and maintenance and disposal activities.

Across NATO, we support in the following Community of Interest (COI) technical service areas: Land, Maritime, Joint, Special Operations and Nuclear C2.

As an Intern – Artificial Intelligence (AI) Operational Planning, you will work as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software developer within the TOPFAS team in the C2 group to further develop how new machine-learning and related techniques can be successfully applied in evolving our current operations planning toolset. The following subject areas are of immediate interest:

  • Named Entity Extraction, Language Detection. Emotion/Sentiment Prediction. Keyword and Topic Extraction. Deep-learning Chatbots and dialog modelling. Intent detection, Query Parsing, Semantic mapping.
  • Development of a simple prototype / MVP able to provide contextual guidance to users in operations planning (conversational bot)

Your work will help build up some of the main lines of development that we have identified in earlier project phases. By working within the C2 team, you will develop your understanding and appreciation of innovative technologies.

Who you are:

  • A recent graduate or current student in a graduate or undergraduate school program in computer science or a related technology field
  • Familiar with the use of relevant software technologies and tools
  • Knowledge of Chatbots, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning
  • Knowledge of at least one relevant programming language and framework for the prototype development (C# .Net, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Ability to understand/influence requirements to positively impact the user experience

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply to our internship program, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • You are a national of a NATO member country
  • You are currently studying towards a university-level degree or have recently graduated in the past 12 months
  • You have strong communication skills in English, both written and oral

  • Proof of ongoing studies with the dates clearly mentioned if you are still studying

Compensation

You will be compensated at a fixed taxable rate of 1,333.74 EUR per month, based on 38 hours of work per week and for travel expenses.
