Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Secretariat is seeking two motivated interns to support the Journal Project within the Central Planning and Coordination Division of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management in New York. One internship is for a Graphic Design & Data Analysis Intern, and the other is for a Microsoft Copilot and Programming Intern. The Journal of the United Nations provides a comprehensive and historical record of daily activities at the United Nations Headquarters. These internships are for a period of six months, are unpaid, and require a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week. Interns will work directly with members of the Journal Project team. The internships follow a hybrid work schedule, with two days remote and three days in-office. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the publication of the Journal of the United Nations. Document practices and working methods of the Journal, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials for clients. Support change management initiatives, enhancing user experience and consistency in data display. Develop user stories, presentations, briefing papers, coordinate meetings, and document meeting minutes. Manage internal databases, including user acceptance, quality assurance, and change management processes. Handle issue management processes and prepare related correspondence. Contribute to the formulation of project strategies and business readiness analysis. Participate in miscellaneous projects such as the Journal of the United Nations UN Stamp, History of the Journal eBook, Journal of the United Nations Website, and Journal interview videos. Incorporate Microsoft Copilot into the section’s materials. Utilize Microsoft Fabric to manage, analyze, and visualize data, including data ingestion, preparation, storage, and creating insightful reports and dashboards. Implement and manage Agents in Microsoft 365 to automate routine tasks and enhance productivity, including setting up and configuring agents for project management, meeting facilitation, and employee self-service. Develop scripts and applications using Python to support data analysis, machine learning models, and automation workflows.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to Data Analysis and Change Management. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Knowledge of Graphic Design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
