Position Overview

​​Shot@Life is a grassroots advocacy campaign of the United Nations Foundation that champions global childhood immunization. We rally members of the public, members of Congress, businesses, and civil society partners — through public education, grassroots advocacy, and fundraising — to support and invest in the global childhood immunization programs of UNICEF, World Health Organization, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Shot@Life’s over 350,000 supporters and over 4,000 core grassroots advocates in all 50 states strive to decrease vaccine-preventable childhood deaths and give every child a shot at life no matter where they live.

The Shot@Life Grassroots Advocacy Intern will learn from the Director of Grassroots Advocacy and Campaign Associate how Shot@Life works to increase grassroots constituency and support the activities of the Shot@Life Champions, the campaign’s most committed individuals who advocate, educate, and fundraise for access to vaccines.

This is a remote, paid, part-time position from September 18, 2023 – December 15, 2023 with possibility for extension. The Intern will work 10-15 hours a week at a rate of $17.00/hour and will be required to track and submit hours worked on a weekly basis.​

Essential Functions

  • ​​ ​​​​Support Shot@Life grassroots advocacy by researching new Champion outreach opportunities as well as members of Congress and their districts.
  • ​During bi-annual Champion advocacy period:
  • ​Follow up with supporters about taking action to help achieve advocacy goals.
  • ​Track advocacy activities and update metrics in databases.
  • ​Assist Shot@Life team in training new Champions:
  • ​Support and help run monthly webinars.
  • ​Update databases with new Champion information following trainings.
  • ​Update training slides as needed.
  • ​Assist in drafting content such as blogs, newsletters, and toolkits.
  • ​Assist the Shot@Life team in preparing for and executing events and activities including:
  • ​Answer supporter queries by monitoring the [email protected] and [email protected] email accounts.
  • ​Support Shot@Life’s preparation for bi-annual Summit.
  • ​Support partner’s grassroots activation.
  • ​Support the activities of Champions.
  • ​Support the Shot@Life Coordinator in managing campaign materials.
  • ​Participate in meetings, take notes, and develop meeting reports.
  • ​Other activities as directed by members of the Shot@Life team.​​​​

Selection Criteria

  • ​​Candidate must be enrolled in or just recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate college or university program within the past 8 months.
  • ​Experience in professional or campus organizing, grassroots outreach, political campaigns, and/or canvassing is highly preferred.
  • ​Strong analytical and writing skills in English.
  • ​A pleasant, customer-service approach to interacting with our supporters is critical.
  • ​Experience with database management and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • ​Knowledge of and/or interest in global health, vaccines, and grassroots advocacy
  • ​Strong oral and written communications skills with a commitment to cross-cultural communication.
  • ​Self-starter, fast learner, keen attention to detail, strong creativity, and team player a must.
  • ​Flexible with ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
  • ​Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • ​Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
  • ​Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • ​Must be available to work 10-15 hours per week.
