Topic: Antenna Measurements
The ESA-ESTEC Antenna Laboratory is dedicated to measure antennas for space applications at high accuracy. The laboratory is equipped with several facilities covering the frequency range from 400 MHz to 5 THz (see this website for more information). The quantities measured in each facility should be given to the customer with an uncertainty. This uncertainty is highly dependent on the quantity measured, the facility used, the antenna under test (very often unknown) and the alignment of the positioner and should be kept as small as possible when measuring space antennas.
After an introduction to the facilities of the ESA-ESTEC Antenna Laboratory, you will carry out antenna measurements for different space missions in different facilities. During the measurements, several effects will be identified, and you will need to quantify their impact on the measured quantity. This impact will result on an uncertainty on the final measurement result and will be reported. The development of a tool could be envisaged to speed up the calculations necessary to obtain the uncertainty.
