The Senior Security Coordinator provides advice on geopolitical issues and security activities and programmes where services and data derived from space systems can make a contribution to European security and strategic autonomy, consolidates ESA activities related to space and security, is in charge of the overall coherence and strategy of the Security Applications element (Security from Space) and supports the coordination of the ESA Agenda 2025 priority, “Space for Safety and Security”.

1) Topic 1: ESA Member States National security policy and capabilities’ review in support of DG-5S daily work
As an intern, you will support the team to identify national policies of European states and their allies, the EU, as well as competitors wrt civil security/safety/protection; monitor existing national space capabilities and their link to security applications and if and how they can network together in support of the CSS programme and R3 Accelerator. This entails the identification of capability gaps.
2) Topic 2: Follow-up of the Member States Security Observatory
As an intern, you will contribute to the update and improvement of the Teams Member States Security Observatory in support of the activities performed in the Department. This observatory is a living tool that also serves in support of bilateral meetings preparation.

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
