If you are passionate about making a lasting difference for Palestine refugees, an internship with UNRWA will give you the opportunity to obtain training and support in matters and issues relating to the UNRWA mandate and areas of operation within the Department of Internal Oversight Services (DIOS) UNRWA-HQ. DIOS consists of the Investigations Division, Evaluation Division and Audit Division. The intern will support the Central Intake Unit (CIU) within the Investigation Division.
The internship is unpaid and full-time. The position is located in Amman and is for a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, depending on the needs of DIOS.
Responsibilities
In support of the CIU within DIOS, potential areas of work that the intern will be asked to support will include:
– Summarizes allegations and, where necessary, conducts review of complaint information or cases to be reviewed by the Intake Committee;
– Assist in handling complaints received via UNRWA Hotline and ensure appropriate management of files;
– Assist in drafting assessments into allegations of misconduct as assigned by the head of the Central Intake Unit;
– Assist in researching, reviewing, and proof-reading investigative/legal material as required;
– Assist with investigative duties as assigned by the head of the Central Intake Unit;
– Perform any other task as may be required.

Education
At the time of application, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
– Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (bachelor’s level or equivalent);
– Have graduated with a university degree.
For this internship, the relevant areas of study may include, ethics, law, human resources management, language, communication, business administration.
In addition, applicants must meet all the following requirements:
– Be computer literate in standard software applications.
– Be able to demonstrate keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter of the United Nations.
– Be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes tolerance of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
Assessment
Successful candidates will undergo an exam followed by an interview to test their verbal and written skills related to the functions detailed above.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNRWA. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns will be solely responsible to secure visas. UNRWA may assist by providing them with visa support letters.
At the stage of acceptance of an internship placement, interns must prove to the satisfaction of UNRWA that they have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage prior to commencing the placement.
The purpose of the internship program is not to lead to further employment with UNRWA but to complement the intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
