POST CONTEXT
Located in La Spezia, Italy, CMRE is one of the three executive bodies of the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO) and conducts relevant, state-of-the-art scientific research in ocean science, modelling and simulation, underwater acoustics and other disciplines.
CMRE operates two research vessels that enable science and technology solutions to be tested and developed at sea.
CMRE is looking for highly motivated candidates in areas like Ship Management, Ship Operations, Marine Superintendent, Ship Building, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering and offers up to six-month internships to applicants to work within its Marine Operations Division (MAROPS).
MAROPS provides cost effective, safe and environmentally sound management and operation of the CMRE research vessels. It coordinates NATO requirements for ships use to support the Centre’s activities by providing sea-going capabilities.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE CMRE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for the CMRE internship, you must fulfil the below criteria on the date of your application:
NOTE: Most of the work of CMRE is conducted in the English language.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Only applications fulfilling the essential qualification criteria will be taken into consideration.
A NATO security clearance may be required prior to starting the internship.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Internship stipend: If you are selected, you will receive a monthly stipend of € 1200.
Travel: You will be compensated at a fixed taxable rate and receive a supplement to assist with travel to CMRE, and to your home country at the end of your internship.
Leave: You will be entitled to 2.5 days of paid leave every month of internship period.
Working environment: The duties are performed indoor and outdoor subject to changing conditions and could involve physical labour.
You may be required to perform your duties on board Centre or chartered vessels.
In-house training: During the internship, you will take part in an induction programme and monthly briefings to provide you with an overview of MAROPS’s activities and structure. The briefings present unique opportunities to meet experienced staff and to discuss topics of interest with them and with other interns.
