Position Overview

The Partnerships & Engagement Intern will support United Nations Foundation partnerships and engagements, communications projects, and events. This includes meeting preparation, communications and outreach, relationship management support, research, and tracking. The role also involves providing support for UN Foundation events and convenings. The intern will be integral in assisting with preparations for the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in September 2023, including the SDG Summit as well as partnership management and project coordination of the Global Goals Week coalition.

The Partnerships & Engagement Intern will work with various teams across the Foundation, UN departments and agencies, external partners, and the creative community. The intern will be a member of the New York Public Affairs team, reporting to the Senior Associate, Partnerships & Engagement.

Essential Functions

  • Support a wide range of partnerships and engagements, communications projects, and events through planning and preparation, note-taking, tracking, writing, etc.
  • Support UN system communicator relationships through research, preparing briefing notes, note-taking, and tracking.
  • Project coordination of Communications Corps and Global Goals Week communities, involving compiling monthly newsletters, conducting partner outreach and engagement, managing partner databases, preparing meeting materials such as briefs and readouts, and copywriting for general communications.
  • Assist with preparations for Global Goals Week in September 2023, including maintaining ongoing partner relationships, managing the Global Goals Week website, and copywriting for various activations and events.
  • Provide event support for a pan-UN Foundation SDG Summit activation.
  • Assist with creative community partnerships (e.g., digital influencers, social media brands, entertainment companies, media) and engagements through research, communications and outreach, and tracking.
  • Support priority UN Foundation events and community convenings through planning, coordinating logistics and speakers, conducting research, liaising internally and externally, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
  • Background in communications, public relations, events, and non-profit work will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of or interest in international development will be an advantage.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent project coordination skills, organization skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and handle stress.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.) essential.
  • Familiarity with WordPress and/or Mailchimp will be an advantage.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the internet.
  • Must be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week during Eastern work hours.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
