If you are passionate about Procurement and Logistics and other related topics, in support of making a lasting difference for Palestine refugees, an internship with UNRWA will give you the opportunity to work on the provision of analysis, advice, training and assistance on procurement and supply chain matters relating to UNRWA’s mandate and areas of operation within the Central Support Services Division, in UNRWA-HQ Amman.
UNRWA human development and humanitarian services encompass primary and vocational education, primary health care, relief and social services, infrastructure and camp improvement, microfinance and emergency response, including in situations of armed conflict.
The mandate of the Central Support Services Division (CSSD) is to ensure continued efficient, effective and high-quality support for substantive programmes in Headquarters and Field Offices in the areas of procurement, travel management, and other general administrative services.
CSSD is composed of 70 staff members.
Responsibilities
The Intern will be provided with an in-depth orientation and on-going guidance and supervision by the team lead of the Procurement Section. Other team members and CSSD staff will work with the Intern on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the selected incumbent assimilates and understands his/her duties and responsibilities and performs his/her work with due diligence.
The Head of the Procurement Section will hold Performance Appraisal sessions with the incumbent at scheduled intervals. Constructive feedback will be provided on how the Intern can improve his/her skills and for further development.
The Intern will be responsible for the following duties:
• Provide support in planning, developing and managing procurement and contractual aspects of projects related to worldwide procurement of diverse services and commodities (e.g. information technology, electronic equipment and instruments, building maintenance, construction, etc.), taking into account local economic and other conditions.
• Conduct data analysis and generate meaningful insights to support decision-making.
• Support in the design, creation, and optimization of data visualizations, dashboards, and catalogues.
• Assist the CSSD procurement team on a full range of procurement issues, providing support at all stages of the procurement cycle. Prepare/oversee preparation and distribution of invitations to tender and manage/conduct all aspects of bid/proposal evaluations.
• Conduct market research to keep abreast of market developments; researches and analyzes statistical data and market reports on the world commodity situation, production patterns and availability of good and services. Identifies and recommends new technologies, and products/services, evaluates and recommends potential supply sources and participates in the incorporation of research results into the procurement process.
• Assist with drafting and preparation of a variety of procurement-related documents, contracts, PowerPoint presentations, communications, guidelines, instructions, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
Applicants must be students enrolled in, or have recently completed (i.e. commence internship within one year of graduation date), either a graduate school programme (i.e. second university degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), with major area of study in economics, business administration, supply chain, logistics, international trade or related field
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
Applicants should demonstrate excellent English communication skills, both orally and in writing, including the ability to draft documents in English.
