The Secretary-General established the United Nations Sustainable Development Group System-Wide Evaluation Office to strengthen the oversight, transparency, accountability, and collective learning across the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
The System-Wide Evaluation Office promotes collective learning and evaluation to contribute to the process of continually upgrading and enhancing the collective offer of the United Nations development system to realise the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The System-Wide Evaluation Office commissions a small number of independent system-wide evaluations on strategic development issues to provide a credible evaluation input to system-wide policy and agenda-setting, as well as operational implementation and decision-making. The System-Wide Evaluation Office collaborates closely with the evaluation offices of the United Nations development system and the United Nations Evaluation Group.
The initial priorities of the System-Wide Evaluation Office are focused on the establishment of the office, including foundational documents, guidance, governance mechanisms, systems, and resources.
We seek motivated interns to support the work of the System-Wide Evaluation Office.
The internship is for a minimum period of two months and maximum period of six months. Internships are either on a part-time or full-time basis for five days per week and internships primarily remote though in-person positions may be available under this vacancy.
Interns report to full-time professional staff in the System-Wide Evaluation Office.
The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern. Interns are required to work 35 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Interns will be responsible for one or more of the following duties:
• Contribute to foundational documents and guidance through conduct of desk research and preparation of background reports and papers.
• Preparation of presentations and other communication material, including drafting, formatting, editing website content/news stories, including graphics, photos, and videos.
• Assist in coordinating the formulation of workplans and strategies.
• Support outreach and engagement through the preparation of meetings, events, talking points, background notes.
• Drafting minutes of meetings and ensuring timely follow-up.
• Assist with the development of office systems, as required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.
• Have a keen interest in monitoring, evaluation and learning and commitment to the work of the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Data analysis and visualization skills and proficiency of related software applications (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, Excel, Qlik, SQL, R, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, Canva) are a strong advantage.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa.
