Position Overview
The intern will be housed within UN Foundation’s Our Future Agenda program, which offers a unique platform for young innovators, entrepreneurs, and champions to reimagine the UN for 21st-century needs. The program aims to tap into young people’s energy, collectivism, and long-term vision, fostering collective action, building alliances, and fortifying support for the United Nations.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support the development of a comprehensive research and learning agenda. This agenda aims to document and consolidate best practices, lessons learned, and experiences in financing youth movements and organizations. This role will work closely with the Our Future Agenda team and the Girls and Women’s team, culminating in a Brown Bag session and a comprehensive report outlining practices, materials, and next steps. Additionally, the intern will assist in hosting intergenerational high-level events with young changemakers and policymakers on the future of the UN in the lead-up to the Summit of the Future, as well as building internal learning and operational capacity.

This is a paid opportunity from June 10, 2024, through September 3, 2024, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelor’s degree program; and $20 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program.

This position is remote. Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection is required.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with the Our Future Agenda team and the girls and women’s team to build research and learning agenda that documents financing strategies for youth movements and organizations.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews, interviews, and analysis to identify best practices, lessons learned, and innovative financing mechanisms.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating a Brown Bag session to share findings with UNF staff.
  • Develop a detailed report summarizing the research findings, including practical recommendations and next steps for implementing best practices.
  • Support the organization of intergenerational high-level UN events, including logistics, participant engagement, and content development, to foster dialogue between young changemakers and policymakers.
  • Contribute to internal learning initiatives to enhance the operational capacity of the UN Foundation, focusing on innovative approaches to support youth-led and youth-focused initiatives.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the Our Future Agenda team and ensure the success of the research and learning agenda.

Selection Criteria

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program in international development, public policy, finance, or a related field.
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in the UN’s work, youth movements, and gender equality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning new software and platforms.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in another UN language is a plus.
