Duties and Responsibilities
The Social Development Division/ Sustainable Demographic Transition Section internship is for 3-6 months. The Social Development Division consists of three sections namely: 1) Sustainable Demographic Transition Section (SDTS); 2) Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation Section (SETS) and 3) Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS), covering the thematic areas of inequality and social protection, population dynamics, ageing, migration, gender equality, disability and youth. SDTS of the Social Development Division covers the thematic areas of population dynamics, population ageing, international migration, and youth and intergenerational issues. For this internship, SDTS is seeking an individual to support our communications work related to the aforementioned. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Drafting engaging content for public information materials, including social media posts, website content, news stories and blogs; • Creating multimedia content, including infographics, presentation slides, event flyers, backdrops, banners and short-form videos for projects and meetings undertaken by the Section; • Conducting research and compiling information for use in the preparation and production of reports; • Assisting in organizing and convening events including commemorations, meetings, seminars and workshops; • Assisting with photography and video coverage when required; • Performing other duties as might be assigned by Chief of the Section and/or her designate. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The minimum duration of an internship is three months and can be extended up to a total of six months. The expected working hours for interns are the same as those for staff, with work five days per week (37.5 hours) and 45-minute lunch break. The internship is under the supervision of a staff member in Sustainable Demographic Transition Section, Social Development Division.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Studies in social sciences, economics or other relevant areas required. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language or another language from the Asia-Pacific region is an asset.
