Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship is unpaid and full-time, i.e., an intern is expected to work five days per week (35 hours). The internship is offered on a hybrid basis (3 days at the office and 2 days of telecommuting). The internship in the Travel Unit of ECLAC Mexico and will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of Travel Supervisor Unit the intern will: • Provides general office support services to help ensure the smooth service delivery from the Travel Unit to staff members. • Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit. • Updates and maintains Mexican visas and Laissez passer lists. • Performs a variety of administrative duties (e.g. meeting organization, reservations, including preparing and/or processing administrative requests/documents (e.g. travel requests, visa applications, renewal Mexican visas, accreditations). • Delivers mail/messages. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Provides general office support services.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. – Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). – Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. – Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. – Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word,MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. – Knowledge of Embassies and visa procedures is desirable. – A first university degree in Administration or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of English is desirable.
