Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the HIV/AIDS Section (HAS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The section is composed of staff in Vienna headquarters and in the field offices, located in UNODC high priority countries. Successful candidate could support staff in the headquarters and in the field offices through telecommuting and in-person. For in-person internship, all related costs for travel and accommodation are to be borne by the selected applicant. The position is for a maximum six months starting 1st of October 2024 UNPAID and full-time. Part-time is negotiable. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the direct supervision of professional staff of the Section. For more information, please visit the following website: https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/hiv-aids/new/index.html Responsibilities The intern will assist with the implementation of the HIV/AIDS Section programme of work as it relates to UNODC mandate on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support related to (a) drug use, in particular injecting drug use, and (b) prison settings. More specifically, the intern will: • Assist the HIV team with the review and drafting of technical publications, project documents, briefing materials and other documents. In doing so, the intern will ensure that a human-rights based- and gender-responsive approach is adopted; • Support the HIV team with the organization and preparation of events and workshops. The intern may be expected to gather documentation, coordinate the agenda and other related materials; basic skills in graphic design (i.e. on Canva or Photoshop), for the development of flyers and other promotional materials, are desired but not required; • Assist the HIV team in updating HIV related country profiles (desk research and drafting skills required), including developing new infographics; • Assist the team with the drafting of web stories and other materials to be published in UNODC’s website, as well as other social media related tasks, such as maintaining a social media calendar to coordinate activity on Twitter and other networks; • Perform other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
• Have HIV/AIDS knowledge and/or work experience. • Be computer literate in standard software applications. • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different gender, cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English – Fluent, strong written and oral communication skills. Other UN languages appreciated.
