JOB DETAIL

Result of Service

Conduct site visits to monitor the progress of construction works of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre and flag challenges and make recommendations to improve and/or expedite construction works.
Support management staff remotely and/or in situ on the review of other construction-related documents (assessment, evaluation forms, quotations and/or bill of quantities, etc.), in line with market prices to initiate and/or continue procurement processes.
Attend Monthly Coordination meeting and Technical Evaluation meetings with counterparts.

Homebased with travel to Sri Lanka

Expected duration

1 October 2023 – 31 January 2024

Duties and Responsibilities

The expert is expected to have homebased and on-site deliverables in Sri Lanka to monitor and provide technical advise on UNODC GMCP’s projects related to construction in contribution to government institutions efforts to counter maritime crime and on prison reform.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in the fields of civil engineering, structural engineering, quantity surveying, construction management or a related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least 7 years of experience in planning, monitoring and/or supervising construction projects; and/or construction management are required
Experience in similar assignments, e.g. consultancies in construction projects in the design, planning, monitoring and supervision stage, in the South Asian region is required;
Experience in procurement and infrastructure contract management is required;

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
