Result of Service
Result 1: The model of African Continental Input Output Table (AfCIOT) is operational with TiVA and macro/structural indicators of good quality being generated for countries in the model. Result 2: Enhanced dissemination of AfCIOT conceptual foundations and results.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located within the African Centre for Statistics of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Under the general supervision and guidance of the Chief of the Economic, Infrastructure, and Agriculture Statistics Section (EIASS), the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: 1) Improve the coverage and underlying data of the database: – Reviews, processes, and validates new SUTs to be included in the model. – Includes new revised countries in the model (SUTs + additional statistics + balancing). – Incorporates OECD’s ICIO2023 into AfCIOT. – Enhances the quality of Supply and Use Tables (SUTs), National Accounts (NA), and external trade statistics through the development of a Framework for Sensitivity Analysis and Data Quality Assessment. – Fills data gaps in national accounts and trade statistics to improve the temporal coverage of the model. – Validates the results for the time period (2018 and 2022). – Produces TiVA and macro/structural indicators for all incorporated countries over the time period. 2) Improves the methodology: – Implements the calculation of macro/structural indicators, such as multipliers for domestic IOTs. 3) Supports the dissemination of TiVA knowledge and AfCIOT model results: – Incorporates the revised model results into the AfCIOT interface. – Conducts testing of the TiVA interface and seeks feedback to improve its usability. – Prepares knowledge products, such as scientific papers, to enhance the understanding of TiVA indicators and their application in policymaking.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in any of the following: statistics, economics, computer science, information technology, or other relevant area. At least five years of work experience in statistical systems with a combination of economic statistics and their application in trade policy required. A solid experience combining work on supply and use tables, trade statistics, input-output tables, databases, and computerized processes in R is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
