Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and The Arab Union of Electricity (AUE) are organizing a capacity-building workshop on the integration costs of wind and solar power on 30-31 July 2024 in Amman, Jordan. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the overall supervision of the Cluster Leader and direct follow up from the project coordinator of the “Sustainable Energy Systems” project canvas at the Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability Cluster, and in collaboration with a national expert, the international expert shall be responsible for the following overall duties, namely: 1. Prepare the training materials, in the form of interactive PowerPoint presentations, split into several modules and composed of an optimal mix of theoretical and practical knowledge as well as real-life case studies and best practices. 2. Deliver the workshop in person in Amman over the course of two days.
Qualifications/special skills
A master’s degree or higher in n electrical engineering, power systems, and/or renewable energy is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in electrical engineering, power systems, and/or renewable energy, including teaching and experience in integrating variable renewable energy into power grids in and/or outside the Arab region, is required. Experience with renewable energy and power systems simulation is desirable. Excellent analytical, research, writing, teaching, and communication skills; computer literacy; proven record of publications covering the topics of variable renewable energy, its integration into power grids, and power systems, is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
