ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for 3 passionate individuals who can represent Amnesty International’s International Members at our Global Assembly for the next three years.
International Members are members of Amnesty, who are based in countries around the world where Amnesty does not have a formal Section or national office.
The role will involve attending the Global Assembly, where Amnesty members from all over the world will gather to take decisions on the future of the movement, agree on joint approaches to work and share learning and experiences. Discussions and decisions will be taken relating to Amnesty as an organization, their governance, finances, and human rights strategy.
During your 3-year term, you would also be asked to attend a Regional Forum, which is a meeting in advance of the Global Assembly where discussions take place with other delegates from your region.
International member representatives must be available and flexible to prepare for and follow up on meetings, including attending preparatory phone calls and reporting on the Global Assembly with the International Secretariat. We would anticipate this being on average 2 hours per month from February to September, depending on when meetings take place. All expenses for any travel that is required would be paid for.
ABOUT YOU
You will have been an international member for more than a year and have taken more than 3 online actions in the last year.
Here are the skills you will need to participate:
- An understanding of the dynamics of a membership-driven organization
- An understanding of Amnesty International, and the role of an international member within Amnesty International
- Knowledge and/ or experience of governance
- Excellent communicator – both written and orally
- Understanding of human rights activism, political and democratic processes
- Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of diversity and gender issues
- Ability to work in either English, French or Spanish
ABOUT US
Amnesty International is a movement of 10 million people which mobilizes the humanity in everyone and campaigns for change so we can all enjoy our human rights. Our vision is of a world where those in power keep their promises, respect international law and are held to account. We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion and are funded mainly by our membership and individual donations. We believe that acting in solidarity and compassion with people everywhere can change our societies for the better.
Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
