Organizational Setting
The Director General’s Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States’ needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.
Main Purpose
The Liaison Office, New York (the Office) is part of the Director General’s Office (DGO). The Office serves as a liaison between the Secretariats of the United Nations and the Agency in the implementation of the Agreement Governing the Relationship between the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (INFCIRC/11). The Office also liaises with representatives of Permanent Missions of Member States to the United Nations, specialized agencies, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and the news media.
To assist the Liaison Office, New York on non-confidential issues related to implementation of the relationship agreement between the United Nations and the Agency, in particular concerning reporting on resolutions, decisions, and relevant documentation of both entities .
Functions / Key Results Expected
Under the supervision of the Director NYO:
• Attend, represent, take notes, and report on meetings of the Plenary, Main Committees, and Subsidiary bodies of the United Nations General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Security Council, and other IAEA relevant events at UNHQ-New York, as requested;
• Assist in preparations for the Agency’s participation in upcoming United Nations-related meetings;
• Interact with delegations of the Permanent Missions to the United Nations and representatives of other intergovernmental organizations with offices in New York;
• Assisting visitors from IAEA headquarters on duty travel;
• Assist as needed in the maintenance of the Office calendar;
• Assist with the preparation of and research on outreach presentations for the public;
• Backstop for others on leave, or as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
• University degree in international relations, international security or relevant discipline.
• General knowledge of United Nations System, non-proliferation, peaceful uses, energy, climate change or health an asset.
• Excellent written and spoken English essential and fluency in French is highly desirable.
• Good commend of written and oral communication skills.
Applicant Eligibility
• Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
• Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.
• Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA’s internship programme.
• Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
• Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
