WorldFish is involved in the Project “Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research in Africa (AICCRA): Rice-Fish Integration Systems in Mali (RiFi)”, led by AfricaRice in Mali. The integration of fish in paddy field is gaining momentum across Africa, but practical models for the effective their integrations in specific agroecological zones in Africa are pending. WorldFish would like to hire an intern who will review the existing technical and financial information on paddy-fish (rice-fish) systems in Africa and develop a rice-fish business model adapted to Mali context.

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct a thorough systematic literature review on paddy-fish (rice-fish) systems in Africa.
  • Analyze the business models of the existing and potential paddy-fish systems in Africa.
  • Write a scientific review manuscript presenting the benefits and constraints of the paddy-fish integration in Africa, using a meta-analysis method.
  • Write a policy paper and a factsheet on a rice-fish business model adapted to Mali context.
  • Contribute to the organization and present at a workshop on rice fish farming in Mali.

Requirements

This opportunity will be suitable for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:

  • Master of Science or PhD in Aquaculture, Agronomics, Agroecology or related area.
  • Experience in conducting scientific literature review in agriculture or aquaculture.
  • Familiar with systematic review methods.
  • Experience with meta-analysis methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to communicate in French will be advantage.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate record of inter-disciplinary, partnership building, and the desire to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Shows good self-initiative & able to work independently.

Location and Duration

The intern can work remotely with visit to WorldFish Headquarters and project site in Mali. The successful candidate should be available to commence the internship as soon as possible for a duration of 08months. Interviews are expected to be held in May 2023 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. This position is open to national and international applicants.
