Internships

 

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

 

The purpose of the programme is:

 

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole; 
  • To benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields. 
  • The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year. 

 

 

Organizational Setting 

 

The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA’s nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the IAEA’s activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure, and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.

 

The Division of Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety develops and maintains standards for radiation protection, radioactive waste safety, and safety in the transport of radioactive material that enable the beneficial uses of radiation to be exploited while ensuring appropriate protection of workers, the public, patients and the environment. It also assists Member States in the implementation of these standards and provides related services.

 

 

 

Main Purpose

 

The intern will report to the Section Head in the Waste and Environmental Safety Section (WES) of the Division of Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety (NSRW). The intern’s work will support the division as a whole.

 

The intern will assist the Division in designing and developing the divisional SharePoint platform, tailored to the needs of the division and the respective entities in the division. The intern will contribute to information management and ensuring proper file structure, record-keeping, and storage. The primary focus of this internship will be to provide general support for the creation of the first divisional SharePoint platform.

 

The incumbent is a motivated and detail-oriented individual, interested in technology and information management, a quick learner and hands-on. While assisting in a wide range of communication and IT-related tasks, the intern will gain hands-on experience in many aspects of SharePoint development and deployment, collecting business requirements, and information management, as well as a good understanding of the workflow of international organizations.

 

 

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

  • Assist in the design, creation, and maintenance of the divisional SharePoint structure, file storage, and sites; 
  • Assist with testing, bug tracking, reporting, and troubleshooting on SharePoint and related features; 
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and rollout of document management procedures across the division;
  •  

    Support engagement with stakeholders across the division to define business needs and requirements and gather feedback; 

  • Assist with orderly migration of files from the  shared drives to SharePoint; 
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of content for the Divisional pages on the internal and external websites; 
  • Contribute to communication across sections and stakeholders to enhance comprehension, information flow, and buy-in; 
  • Assist in the creation, review, updating, and/or delivery of related training material;

    and other related tasks as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • University degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Social Sciences, International Relations, Communications, or related field.
  •  

    Excellent skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Power BI, SharePoint, etc.), particularly SharePoint. 

  • Familiarity with document and web content management systems. 
  • Business understanding and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Detail-oriented, creative and flexible. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong analytical skills. 
  • Proactive and cooperative outlook. 
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. 

 

 

Applicant Eligibility

 

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. 
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree. 
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA’s internship programme. 
  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset. 
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
