Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in the Office of the Director in the UN Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. The Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) provides services to Secretariat entities, as well as, to New York-based Agencies, Funds, and Programmes (AFP). The services include medical entitlement administration, occupational safety and health, medical workforce management, clinical governance, UN System Medical Emergency Response Strategy, patient safety and public health. In addition, the Secretariat’s counselling services are located within DHMOSH. Under the overall supervision of the Medical Director, the incumbent may have responsibilities which include, but are not limited to: • Assist in the development of health-related projects for the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH). • Participate in the the International Civil Services Committee (ICSC) review of duty stations for health classifications. • Organize the ICSC folder of the Share Drive of DHMOSH. • Assist Medical Officer in charge in the development of an electronic data collecting and analysis system for health care assessment. • Assist in preparing official documents; whilst ensuring grammar, content and formatting are accurate. • Conduct research, including document, medical and psychosocial policies, and Internet searches. • Assist with reporting, drafting, and editing of content for print, web and multimedia. • Assist in organizing special events and meetings. • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
We are looking for applicants who will demonstrate their intention to study further or work in a field relevant to the work of DHMOSH. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent or higher); b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or c) Have graduated with a university degree (secondary or first level); d) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and e) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. f) Risk/Crisis management and/or Emergency Care background is desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Power BI, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required. An orientation in statistical data analytics is desirable. Public Health or Data Management background is desirable. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Enrollment in any of the medical sciences studies, is desirable.

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Terms of the internship programme: -Interns are expected to work on a full-time or part-time basis in the entity that has selected them, under the supervision of a staff member at an appropriate level. The working hours will be discussed with your supervisor at the time of the interview. Internships may be undertaken on the basis of flexible working arrangements if: -The receiving entity agrees in writing to accept an intern on the basis of flexible working arrangements. -Interns agree that they are required to work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two (2) months on a full-time basis or four (4) months on a part-time basis, in order, to receive recognition of service as an intern.
