Internships

 

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

 

The purpose of the programme is:

 

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
  • To benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
  • The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

Organizational Setting 

 

The Director General’s Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States’ needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.

 

The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA’s global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.

 

The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section has corporate responsibility for the editorial management, creation and development of information products with a particular focus on the web, digital media, internal communications and cross-departmental promotional material.

 

 

 

Main Purpose

 

The main purpose of an internship is to provide the holder with an opportunity to gain practical working experience in an international organization. The training provided should benefit the intern and the divisional programme in which he/she works.

 

 

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

  • Drafting articles for the IAEA website and intranet
  • Uploading articles and photos to the IAEA website and intranet
  • Supporting the filming/editing of short internal videos
  • Researching posts to be published via the IAEA’s social media channels.
  • Other support to the section as required

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • University degree or studies in communication, journalism or related field.
  • English language article writing experience is required, for corporate communications or journalistic channels
  • Some experience with the technical sides of communication production is desired, for example video or photo editing, using Content Management Systems (CMS) for uploading content onto websites.

 

 

Applicant Eligibility

 

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA’s internship programme.
  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
