The OECD has earned a leading role in agriculture. The Trade and Agriculture Directorate (TAD) is the focal point for the OECD’s work on agriculture, both international and domestic, and it works to advance the Strategic Orientations of the Secretary-General, including on climate change mitigation and on open trade and markets, ensuring impact of the OECD Agriculture work in the international governance architecture, in co-ordination with the OECD Sherpa team.

TAD works covers a wide set of analysis of food and agriculture policy, agri-food trade and market and agricultural sustainability under the responsibility of two divisions, the Agriculture and Resource Policies (ARP) Division and the Agriculture Trade and Markets (ATM) Division. TAD work involves a mix of analytical and policy-oriented research conducted in a dynamic, multicultural environment by a team of highly-qualified and experienced staff.

TAD is looking for one or more Junior Policy Analysts (JPAs) to contribute to its work on the environmental sustainability of agriculture and food systems and related analysis on agriculture and food policy issues. This may include a project on assessing the climate effects of specific policies in agriculture, forestry and other land use, or on the transformation of global food systems, including the contribution of markets and trade  to improving environmental sustainability. The JPAs will work with Analysts under the oversight of Heads of Units and Heads of Division in TAD/ARP or TAD/ATM.

Main Responsibilities

 Research, Analysis and Drafting

·     Contribute to projects, including on climate and environmental impacts of agriculture, food and related policies, by collecting, summarising and analysing data and evidence in a wide range of countries.

·       Participate to the drafting of reports and publications designed for a policy audience

·       Contribute to the preparation of policy notes, presentations, and briefing material that are clear, concise and relevant for policy makers.

 Liaison, representation and meetings

·    Participate to the organisation of workshops, webinars and events organised by the OECD on agriculture and food, as requested, including by interacting with prospective speakers.

·     Participate in official committee meetings as appropriate, and assist in the preparation of missions and other requests (including preparation of talking points and carrying out other organisational tasks).

Ideal Candidate Profile

 

Academic Background

·       An advanced university degree in applies economics or political sciences, with an emphasis on agriculture, food or environmental issues 

Professional Background

·       Two years’ experience in policy analysis on agriculture, food, environment or related topic.

·       Proven capacity for sound analytical and policy-orientated work; to effectively execute research or project assignments and to synthesise technical and policy-orientated issues for audiences at governmental or intergovernmental level.

·       Profiency in analysis of quantitative information or experience with advanced analytical tools (Excel, statistical software) will be an advantage.

 

Languages

·       Working knowledge of both OECD official languages (English and French) would be an asset.

·       Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

Contract Duration

·       One year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
