Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority with a mandate to set the global environmental agenda, promote the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serve as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP coordinates the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners to provide technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and to strengthen the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This internship is located in UNEP/ Ecosystems Division/ Biodiversity and Land Branch/Nature and Health Unit. Under the direct supervision of the Chief, of the Nature and Health Unit (NAH), the intern will: Assist in documenting and digitizing institutional knowledge (e.g., best practices, project reports, case studies). Support the development and maintenance of an internal knowledge repository. Assist in research and compilation of information on emerging KM trends and tools. Support in organizing internal learning sessions, workshops, or webinars. Assist in drafting, editing, and publishing content for various communication channels (newsletters, blog posts, social media, website updates). Assist in creating and executing digital communication campaigns. Assist in managing social media platforms, including content scheduling, community engagement, and performance analytics. Support the development of communication materials, such as presentations, infographics, and reports, with a strong visual appeal. Support in Web Development and Digital Management: Assist in website content updates and maintenance using a content management system (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, or Squarespace). Assist in basic web development tasks, including minor HTML, CSS, and layout adjustments as needed. Assist in designing visually appealing graphics for digital and print media using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. Support in preparing graphic files for production by understanding print specifications and minimum resolution requirements for various print materials. Assist in managing digital assets and photos, ensuring that images meet required quality standards for both print and digital media. Optimize and edit images for various platforms, observing differences in resolution and file formats.
Qualifications/special skills
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Information Science, or a related field. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Bachelor’s degree program in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Information Science, or a related field. Familiarity with digital communication platforms and social media management tools, with basic understanding of content management systems (CMS). Proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign, with additional knowledge of print software such as QuarkXPress. Understanding of Squarespace for managing and updating website content. Excellent written and spoken communication skills including proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent is required. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
