Duties and Responsibilities
The Individual Contractor (IC) will support the Knowledge Management and Guidance Team (KMG) of the Policy and Best Practices Service (PBPS). Under the supervision of the KMG Team Leader, the Individual Contractor will support in the following areas: – Management of the Policy and Practice Database (PPDB) and the Peacekeeping Resource Hub (RH). This entails uploading pending documents; creating new folders/repositories where needed; supporting technical work on thematic pages on the PPDB, including by generating document links in HTML, preparing ZIP files for upload, etc. – Maintaining an inventory of all new guidance, training and best practice documents pending upload. Identifying key thematic areas and key words for each document. Identifying any potentially confidential content and flagging to managers. Sanitizing documents where necessary. – Working with the database Manager on regularly updating the Policy and Practice Database homepage, addressing technical issues and making suggestions for further improvements. Support the Team’s work in managing information flow in the network of Policy and Best Practices Officers in MS Teams and help maintain the SharePoint site. – Support KMG to prepare and disseminate the monthly Policy and Practice Newsletters as well as the quarterly Peacekeeping Resource Hub Newsletter.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, political studies, computer science or similar or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. One year experience with database management and data collection & analysis, general research skills, general report preparation and experience with Microsoft 365 tools is required. Previous internship experience with a governmental/international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and recent writing experience is required.
